Some ad campaigns just seem to be more effective at burrowing into our minds then others. This one for instance. Any time I think about ad campaigns I always think about the “Where’s the Beef” campaign from the 80’s. I remember it fondly because the old ladies in those gritty commercials really spoke to my inner beef wanting self.
I miss the old gritty feeling of the 80’s. Watching the local Chicago stations growing up, there were a lot of shows filmed in the area that had a certain homegrown feel and charm to them that I just loved. Last year we went back to that area for the holidays and while we were stuck in the hotel, WGN was showing a history of the Bozo the Clown show. We use to watch that show every morning. They gave a full history of the show, but the most interesting to me was the classic Christmas cartoons that they used to show every year. They were old black and white animation and they heralded the coming of the xmas season for us back in the 80’s. These were, The Three Little Dwarves, Suzy Snowflake and Frosty the Snowman. Man, I miss the old days.
